Lieutenant JG Kelly Henshaw
Name Kelly Henshaw
Position Chief Flight Control Officer
Rank Lieutenant JG
|Physical Description||Kelly is fit, and very easy on the eyes. Her dark hair is generally pulled back into a pony tail and her blue eyes are usually twinkling with mischief. She's the vision of a normal officer, even if she doesn't always act like one.|
|Father||David Henshaw (Deceased)|
|Other Family||Trent McMasters - Former Academy Instructor, In regular contact|
Personality & Traits
|General Overview||Kelly is trouble, through and through. She's got a mischeivous streak a mile long and isn't afraid to voice her opinion. That's left her on the wrong side of more than a few superior officers. On the contrast of that, she's extremely loyal to those she calls friends, and makes friends easily - at least among those that can handle her straight forward nature.
She is confident to a fault at times, but she can usually back it up with her skills at the helm of capital ship or a shuttle. She graduated at the top of her class and she's not afraid to prove it.
|Strengths & Weaknesses|| Strengths:
- Hand to Hand combat (not trained, life-long scrapper)
- Big mouthed
- Lack of Respect
|Ambitions||Kelly doesn't really know what her ambitions are. She wants to see space, she wants to fly ships. As long as she's able to do that, she'll be happy.|
|Hobbies & Interests||Boxing, Kick Boxing, Rock Climbing, Cars, Planes|
|Personal History||Kelly grew up rough. Unlike most of the sparkling cadets coming from the biggest and brightest cities on earth, Kelly grew up in North Tamarac, New York - a seedy little town that the UFP seemed to have forgotten existed. Times were hard, money was short, and the bright sparkle of the rest of the world never quite made it there.
What Kelly did have was a wonderful family. Her mother and father adored their daughter, and she adored them right back. Year after year they toughed it through living in North Tamarac, eating cheap food, trying to make ends meet and to save up enough to move away. Kelly's father worked as a stunt pilot at the local airfield to raise money. He was nothing short of Superman in her eyes.
When Kelly was 15, tragedy struck. They finally had enough money to move, it was all going to be fine at last, and her father had one last run at the air field and then he'd be able to work as an air mechanic in San Francisco.
During his flight, one of the engines on the plane he was flying blew, sending him plummeting to the ground. He survived the crash, and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors thought they could save him, and Kelly and her mother dumped ever dime they had into doing so... only to fail. His body was too ravaged from the crash, and the technology in the hospital was too far behind to save him.
Kelly and Rebecca were both devastated. Left with no husband and no money, Rebecca turned to the bottle while Kelly turned to her anger. Her grades dropped, and her mother became a regular in the principals office. The two fought, and life only got worse. At 18, Kelly had had enough of North Tamarac and joined Starfleet. She was going to get out of that town one way or another.
Kelly's Academy years were rough, constantly at odds with professors and leadership, and struggling to keep up with the course work that her poor early schooling hadn't prepared her for. There was one bright spot during that time: Helm Training. Kelly could get the ships to do things that no one else in her class could, be it shuttle or starship. That was where she shined, and that was the one teacher who saw something worthwhile in her.
Trent McMasters was her professor from that class, and he hammered and hammered on Kelly until he'd taught her some form of respect, even if it wasn't the most polished one. Her grades came up to a passing level (if only just) and she was assigned to her first ship, the USS Valhalla.
She quickly escalated from Helmsman to Assistant to the Chief and after 3 years about the Valhalla received orders to her first Chief spot on the USS Langport.
With just a tinkling of hope in her heart, the poor little girl from North Tamarac has hope that she might just make it after all.
If she can just resist the urge to punch people in the nose.
