Departments & Positions

  • Command (Primary Manifest)

The Command department is ultimately responsible for the ship and its crew, and those within the department are responsible for commanding the vessel and representing the interests of Starfleet.

  • Flight Control (Primary Manifest)

Flight Control is responsible for much more than simply flying the ship. The Langport has three shuttle bays, multitudes of shuttles and transports, a Marine wing, a Starfighter wing and a host of other ships wanting to dock or resupply, etc. every other time that you turn around. The Flight Control Officer is responsible for overseeing all of this. He or she often pilots the Captain's yacht or shuttle for away missions as well. They also act as FCO to the Aerospace wing.

  • Security (Primary Manifest)

Security is responsible for maintaining the safety of the crew and assets aboard a posting at any cost- often times even their lives. In an imperfect, dangerous universe, security is as close as some ever come to having justice or shelter. Though it may seem fairly self-explanatory to say that security is responsible for the security of the ship, they do much more than that. They are advisors keen on interpretation, investigators and bodyguards. They are teachers and monitors and ship defense forces. In short they aren't merely security, they are the authority on security when it comes to anything with Fleet interest stamped on its sheet.

  • Operations (Primary Manifest)

Everything from flying the ship to sensor technicians, communications, deck chiefs and yeomans all belong to the prestigious operations department. They are the merchants of information- both incoming and outgoing- in regards to every single facet of the ship and its workings. If engineering is the muscle and bone of a ship, then operations is the brains, blood and nervous system. They have their fingers in every system, their code dancing through every terminal. Without their direction the fantastic machines put out by Federation shipyards would be nothing more than a flotilla of unresponsive paperweights.

  • Engineering (Primary Manifest)

If the Fleet's job is to protect and explore the universe, then Engineers are the how and why the rest of the Fleet gets there. They are the monkey wrenches tasked with monitoring and maintaining both starship, the ships on their ship and anything else that crosses their paths. They often do most of the "grunt work" that is involved in keeping a ship or space station up and running from stem to stern. With so much of modern technology distancing man and machine by data streams, they bridge the gap by bringing tools and materials into play. They patch up, tear down, strip, rework, crawl, dig and replace every blessed inch of a ship on any given day.

  • Science (Primary Manifest)

Without science the Federation wouldn't have the means to back up their pioneering spirit. The great unknown, the massive leaps in medicine, technology and culture would be completely lost without the sharp minds parsing the information into usable bits to be brought home and recreated. Onboard ship science has its hands in every department, supplying them with key information, research and findings. They are interpreters and guesstimators whose words could end the lives of all those surrounding them if they guess wrong. Dealing much in the realm of the unknown and hypotheticals, they are the magicians that make concrete reality out of a few base tries and some litmus paper.

  • Medical & Counseling (Primary Manifest)

Following a long line of healers and care-givers, Starfleet Medical is the group that ensures the health and well-being of Starfleet personnel. They are the doctors, nurses, technicians, and counselors charged with tending to all that need them. Whether you've stubbed your toe or developed a good case of PTSD, sickbay is most likely where you're headed. With skill-sets ranging anywhere from microsurgery to psychiatry, a Starfleet medical officer is prepared to offer the highest excellence in treatment. Medical officers are often trained in several branches of medical sciences thanks to the extraordinary advances in technology and medicine. Working closely with science, the two departments are able to diagnose and often treat previously undiscovered conditions.

  • Marine Detachment (Primary Manifest)

A captain doesn't call out the marines for anything short of a hostile situation. They aren't the peacekeepers that security is meant to be. They're there to threaten, to destroy and to rebuild. Bring them into play is often times the only threat needed to secure a situation, but should that not be enough they're more then prepared to kick the action up a notch and let loose all forms of hell.

  • Aerospace Wing (Primary Manifest)

Contrary to popular belief, Aerospace is neither a part of the SFMC or fall under the category of Flight Control. They are their own small unit working independently which works in tandem with Flight Control who oversees them from afar as a 'control tower' so to speak. Unlike the Marine fighters, Aerospace is able to fight effectively both in atmosphere and in zero-g. They are equipped to be both defensive and offensive in nature. They are lead by a wingleader and flown in a group of six vipers.

  • Civilians & Family (Primary Manifest)

Civilians play an important role in Starfleet. Many civilian specialists across a number of fields work on occasion with Starfleet personnel as a Mission Specialist. In other cases, extra ship and station duties, such as running the ship's lounge, are outsourced to a civilian contract.
